Questions people often ask.
Starting therapy can bring up uncertainty about costs, what the first session feels like, or whether it will actually help. Here are straightforward answers to the questions we hear most.
Starting Therapy
What it actually feels like to take the first step.
What happens in a first session?
Your first session is an hour to talk about what’s bringing you in, cover a few important areas, and get a sense of whether you feel we’re a good fit. Share at your own pace. You don’t have to share your whole story, or talk about painful experiences, until you’re ready.
What if I cry, freeze up, or don’t know where to begin?
Tears, silence, and feeling at a loss for words are completely welcome. Many people come to us after months or years of holding everything together for everyone else. When you finally sit in a room where someone is paying full attention, it is natural for that weight to release. Our therapists are comfortable sitting with quiet and ambiguity. You do not need to perform or keep yourself composed here.
How do I get started? Is there a phone screening or waitlist?
We keep it simple: fill out our short online contact form with what kind of care you are looking for. We typically reply within 1–2 business days. Our coordinator verifies your insurance benefits and emails you clear details on what you will owe. Then you complete brief digital intake paperwork and your first session is scheduled. No phone screening hoops, no phone tag.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, we are accepting new clients. Send us a short request through our contact form and we will get back to you within 1–2 business days with next steps.
How long will I be in therapy?
Therapy sessions are typically 45–55 minutes, either weekly or twice a month. How long therapy lasts depends on what you are working through. Some focused goals may improve within a few weeks, while long-standing patterns, grief, trauma, or neurodivergence may take more time. We will talk openly about your progress and adjust as needed.
Insurance & Costs
Clear, upfront numbers without surprises.
Do you take insurance? What is my copay?
We work with multiple major insurance networks, but coverage can vary by plan and may change over time. Before scheduling, we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm that we are in network and to ask about your copay, coinsurance, and deductible. If you do not have insurance coverage, ask us about self-pay options.
Does every clinician accept the same insurance plans?
No. Insurance participation varies by clinician, and not every provider accepts every plan listed on our website. When you contact us, we’ll help you identify which clinicians participate with your insurance and discuss your options for care.
Which services are covered by insurance vs. private pay?
Many therapy services, including individual counseling, EMDR, and perinatal care, may be covered by insurance depending on your plan. Coverage for couples and family therapy varies. ADHD assessments may also be covered, while adult autism and vocational assessments are private pay with clear, flat-rate pricing provided upfront.
What happens if I have an unmet deductible?
If your plan has an annual deductible that has not yet been met, your insurer may require you to pay the contracted network rate until that deductible is satisfied. We check this for you up front so you never get a surprise bill weeks later.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards for all session copays and assessment fees.
Care & Practical Details
Where we meet, how we work, and finding the right fit.
Where is your office, and do you offer telehealth?
Our physical office is located in downtown Longview at 1338 Commerce Ave, Suite #301, with free street parking and elevator access. We also provide secure, easy-to-use telehealth across all of Washington state, with select providers licensed to see clients in Oregon (including the Portland metro area).
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?
When you book an appointment, that time is reserved solely for you. Please give us 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule so we can offer the opening to someone else who may need it. For sudden illness or family emergencies, we are always reasonable and understanding. Just contact us as soon as you can.
How do I know if this is the right place for me?
Therapy works best when you feel genuinely heard, respected, and safe. We are a great fit if you want unhurried, human care without clinical coldness. If after two or three sessions it does not feel like the right match, we encourage honest feedback and will gladly help you transition to another therapist.
What does "neurodivergent-affirming" care mean?
It means we do not treat ADHD or autism as deficits to be cured or fixed. We understand the exhaustion of masking (hiding your natural traits to fit in), executive dysfunction (trouble with planning, focus, and follow-through), and burnout, and we help you build sustainable rhythms that work with your brain instead of forcing you to conform to neurotypical expectations.
What ages do you see? Do you work with teens?
We support individuals and families here in the Pacific Northwest, from age 4 to 94, including children, teens, adults, couples, parents, postpartum parents, and neurodivergent individuals. When you contact us, we’ll help you find a clinician who works with your age group and care needs.
Can I choose or switch therapists?
Yes. You can browse our team by specialty and request a specific provider when you reach out. If after a session or two it does not feel like the right fit, just let us know and we will help you transition to another therapist with no awkward conversation needed.
Is therapy confidential? Will my employer, partner, or parents know?
Yes, therapy is strictly confidential. We do not share information with your employer, partner, or family without your written consent, except where required by law, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. For teens ages 13 and up, we protect their privacy while keeping parents appropriately involved. For couples and families, we explain upfront how information is shared between participants.
Still have a question we didn’t answer?
You don’t have to have it all figured out before you reach out. Send us a short note about what’s on your mind, and our team will get back to you with clear, honest answers within 1–2 business days.
